A nine-month-pregnant woman was brutally murdered with a sickle in Chikkodi village, Athani taluk, Belagavi district, on Friday (December 21, 2024).
The victim, identified as Suvarna Mahanthayya Mathapathi (36), was attacked while returning from the farmland after collecting fodder. She was found lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries to her head, face, and stomach.
Passersby alerted her husband, Mahanthayya, who rushed to the scene and took her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The couple, who already have four children, were expecting their fifth child in January 2025. Neither her husband nor her parents have raised suspicions against anyone.
Athani Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
