Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar met the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan in New Delhi, urging the establishment of the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship & Management (NIFTEM) in Belagavi.
Shettar emphasized Karnataka’s robust agricultural landscape, noting its cultivation of crops like millet, wheat, rice, pulses, sugarcane, and tobacco. The state is also a key exporter of spices such as black pepper, cardamom, and ginger, gaining international recognition.
Belagavi hailed as the birthplace of Karnataka’s hydraulics industry, was spotlighted for its strong industrial base and its evolution into a significant hub for agriculture, commerce, and industry.
Shettar stressed these attributes during discussions, arguing that the institute would benefit farmers, entrepreneurs, and consumers while boosting regional development.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan welcomed the proposal and assured a detailed evaluation of Belagavi’s potential to host the institute, according to a release from MP Shettar’s office.
With its industrial and agricultural strengths, Belagavi is positioned as an ideal candidate for this initiative, aiming to advance opportunities in food processing and agriculture.
