Leaders and activists of the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) were detained by the police in Belagavi on Monday for protesting against the Karnataka Assembly’s winter session being held at the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha.
A tense atmosphere unfolded at Sambhaji Circle as MES members gathered, raising slogans in opposition. The police had deployed extensive security measures to prevent the MES from holding its Maha Melava. Among those detained were MES Working President Manohar Kinekar and Treasurer Prakash Margale, who was picked up from the party office in Ramlingkhind Galli.
As MES activists arrived in groups, chanting pro-Maharashtra slogans, they were detained at Sambhaji Circle, where the situation remained tense.
