On Tuesday morning, the Karnataka Lokayukta initiated surprise raids on nine government officials across various parts of the state. The raids, conducted simultaneously at 40 locations linked to the suspects, focus on cases involving disproportionate assets.
Among the locations targeted were Belagavi, Haveri, Davangere, Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Ramanagar, and Dharwad. Officials confirmed that those raided include Srinivas, Deputy Director at the Women and Child Welfare Department in Haveri; Nagesh D, Public Relations Officer at Mysuru City Corporation; and Venkatesh S Majumdar, Assistant Commissioner in the Commercial Tax Department, Belagavi.
In Belagavi, raids were carried out at the residences of three officials. Venkatesh Majumdar, who is stationed in Bengaluru, had his house in Sahayadri Nagar raided, while Vithal Shivappa Dhavaleshwar, a Village Accountant from Borgaon in Nippani taluk, was targeted at his residence in Kamankoppa village, Ramdurg taluk. Dhavaleshwar was previously apprehended with Rs 1.10 crore in cash during a check at a Ramdurg checkpoint while traveling toward Bagalkot.
Additionally, the residence of Govindappa Hanumantappa Bhajantri, Assistant Executive Engineer at the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board in Dharwad, was raided at Ugargol village in Savadatti taluk. The searches, including verification of documents, assets, and cash, are ongoing, with further details on seizures expected soon.
