To improve road safety and ease traffic flow, Belagavi Police Commissioner Yada Martina Marbanyang, I.P.S., has implemented updated restrictions on heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) over 3 tonnes within city limits. Under the new directive, HTVs are prohibited from entering city areas from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
These restrictions, enacted under Section 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1938, Vehicle Rule 221-A(5), and the Karnataka Traffic Control Act, 1960, cover all city roads, including those in Belagavi Municipal Corporation and Cantonment areas, though National Highway-4 (Pune-Bangalore Road) remains exempt.
Exemptions apply to essential service vehicles such as school buses, milk trucks, fuel carriers, urban transport, and sugarcane trucks during harvest. Additionally, light vehicles under 3 tonnes carrying fruits and vegetables may enter city limits during these hours.
This revised schedule replaces the former restriction times of 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., offering better traffic management during peak periods.
