Shubha B officially assumed office as the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) commissioner on Tuesday, following a government order appointing her to the position. Shubha, previously the project director of the Mysuru Urban Development Cell, replaces Ashok Dudagunti, who was transferred.
Addressing the media, Shubha emphasized the importance of promoting the Kannada language within the city. “All shops must display nameplates in Kannada, with at least 60% of the content in the language,” she said. In line with government directives for the 50th Karnataka Rajyotsava, all officers must wear ID cards in the Kannada flag’s colors, and BCC staff will also receive such IDs. She further stated that trade licenses will only be issued after conducting a survey, and awareness campaigns will encourage compliance with the Kannada nameplate rule.
Shubha highlighted the need to improve tax collection to support the city’s development. Reflecting on her 11 years of public service, she noted the challenges of working away from one’s hometown. “I’ve served in Chitradurga, Madikeri, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Ramanagara, and Kanakapura. This is my first posting in BCC, and I look forward to working closely with the people and staff to drive the city’s progress,” she added.
