Doctors at Shree Ortho and Trauma Centre (SOTC) in Belagavi recently performed critical surgeries, saving the lives of two patients from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Both patients, who sustained severe spinal injuries, underwent complex spinal procedures and were successfully discharged, regaining most of their normal activities.
Krishna Patil, injured in a road accident, underwent two surgeries performed by a medical team led by Dr. Devagouda I., along with Dr. Sagar Nadkarni, Dr. D. Anand, Dr. S.M. Kotrashetty, Dr. Pratap Ravindranath, and Dr. Girish Hiremath. His treatment was provided free of charge under the Harish Scheme, which covers accident victims admitted within 24 hours of the incident.
Another patient, 45-year-old farmer Shettappa Patil from Chandagad, Maharashtra, suffered neck injuries that left his limbs immobile and numb. Surgeons performed a Cervical and Dorsal Spine Fusion procedure to stabilize his condition. Dr. Devagouda emphasized that any delay could have resulted in spinal shock, permanent paralysis, spinal cord edema, or even death.
