An inmate at Hindalga Central Prison in Belagavi passed away at the District Civil Hospital on Wednesday.
B.M. Girish Ballari, who was serving a life sentence, was hospitalized after attempting to take his own life in his cell on Tuesday. Other inmates discovered him unconscious and alerted prison officials to facilitate his transfer to the hospital.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and a case has been filed at the Rural Police Station.
