Solapur village near Hukkeri in Belagavi district witnessed tension after a clash broke out between two groups, resulting in damage to several motorbikes. Police had to intervene with a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd and restore order.
One group later told reporters that they were subjected to sudden stone-pelting following the immersion procession of the Durgadevi idol during Dasara and Navaratri festivities. In retaliation, some youths from the group chased and attacked the alleged assailants. The police have not yet confirmed the incident.
To contain the unrest, additional police forces have been deployed to the area. The situation is now reported to be under control.
MLA Nikhil Katti has appealed to the public to maintain peace.
