The past month has seen a significant rise in thefts in Belgaum, particularly in the Khasbag and Tilakwadi areas. A concerning pattern has emerged, with single women being specifically targeted, sparking fears that the notorious Irani gang may have resurfaced in the city.
A recent robbery on Friday has further escalated these concerns. During a puja, a woman wearing a gold chain was followed by thieves who later snatched her chain and fled on a motorbike. The local community is urging the police to take immediate action to catch those responsible.
Intelligence reports indicate that the gangs involved in these robberies may have escaped to Goa and are currently in hiding. Authorities are actively pursuing leads, analyzing CCTV footage, and working with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to identify the suspects’ vehicle based on its model and color, despite already having the bike’s number.
Belgaum City Police Commissioner Yada Martin Marbaniang has assured residents that the police are taking stringent measures to apprehend the culprits. He urged anyone witnessing or experiencing theft to call 112 to report the crime immediately.
As the Belgaum police intensify their efforts, residents remain on high alert, hoping for a swift resolution to this troubling surge in crime.
