A BJP member of the Town Panchayat, Nagaraj Asundi, was kidnapped from the town on Thursday night, just days before the election for the positions of president and vice president scheduled for September 3. In the 18-member council, BJP holds 9 seats, Congress has 5, and 4 independents are reportedly backing Congress.
Allegations have emerged that Congress orchestrated the kidnapping to secure power. Asundi was taken by individuals in an SUV while he was near Chowkimath. In response, BJP supporters protested at the Channamma Kittur police station, demanding action.
The Superintendent of Police, Dr. Bhimashankar Guled, confirmed a kidnapping case was registered, and three teams have been formed to investigate. Additionally, BJP Belgaum Rural District organized a protest at the District Police Office in Belgaum.
