Akkatayi Langoti, an elderly farm woman from Suttatti near Raibag in Belgaum district, organized a mass lunch for around 200 women using the money she saved from the Gruha Lakshmi monthly payment scheme.
She expressed her gratitude towards Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, crediting him for eradicating hunger in many poor households through free ration and monthly payment initiatives. The lunch, which included the local sweet holige, was held at the Gram Devta temple in the village. Akkatayi had saved ₹14,000 from 10 installments of ₹2,000 each to fund the meal.
Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar spoke with Akkatayi over the phone on Sunday, commending her gesture and promising to visit her home for lunch. The Minister’s public relations officer later visited Akkatayi’s home, gifting her a silk sari and sweets from the Minister’s office. Akkatayi’s act of kindness drew attention on social media, leading to this recognition from the Minister.
