Farmers in Belgaum Taluk have seized office supplies from the Assistant Commissioner’s office due to delays in receiving compensation. The Sub-Divisional Officer’s office within the DC office premises was raided by the farmers, who took various items, including computers, chairs, and printers.
In 2008, these farmers had given up 270 acres of land for the expansion of Sambra Airport in Belagavi Taluk. Although the government initially provided ₹2 lakh per acre as compensation per a court order, the farmers later sought additional compensation in 2011. In 2018, the Belgaum civil court ordered an additional compensation of ₹40,000 per gunte. When the compensation was still not paid, the farmers approached the court again in 2021, which again ordered immediate payment.
Despite these court orders, the compensation remains unpaid, totaling ₹8 crores owed to 20 farmers. Following the court’s instructions, the farmers confiscated the AC office’s furniture as a form of protest.
