A female Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) stands accused of assaulting a woman who visited the police station to report a dispute with her brother over a wall and water issue.
PSI Anita Rathoda allegedly assaulted Poonam Mayannavara from Khadkalata village in Nippani taluk. Following the incident, Poonam received initial treatment at Nippani Community Hospital before being admitted to a private hospital.
In her statement to the media, Poonam Mayannavara recounted, “My elder brother had a dispute with our parents. On Saturday night, the PSI visited our house. I informed him that I would come to the police station in the morning as there were no men at home. However, they not only illegally detained me but also took me to the police station and slapped me.”
“He kicked me in various parts of my body, including my legs, stomach, and chest. The assault was indiscriminate, showing no regard for a woman’s dignity. The interrogation was biased and brutal. I lost consciousness during the assault and later had to be hospitalized. The government must take strict action against such arrogant police officers,” she insisted.
Prakash Mayannavara, Poonam’s husband, expressed his outrage, stating, “The police officer who took my wife to the station and assaulted her has shown no humanity. Such individuals have no place in this department. The Home Minister should take decisive action and ensure justice for us.”
Responding to the case, Belgaum Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled informed the media, “It has been confirmed that the PSI slapped the woman; however, she was not kicked in the stomach. The police department is investigating the matter thoroughly, and we are committed to delivering justice to the affected family.”
