A 20-year-old married woman attempted suicide by ingesting poison, reportedly due to alleged dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws, while staying at her parental home. She is currently receiving medical treatment at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) Hospital.
Kanavika recently married Ganesh Godyalkar, who purportedly identified himself as a software engineer. Soon after their marriage, allegations suggest that harassment for dowry began. Authorities have initiated a medico-legal case in response to the incident.
Earlier, Kanavika filed a complaint with the women’s police against her husband Ganesh, his father Thammanna, mother Sujatha, elder sister Sowmya, and uncle Paramesh Kyarashetty, accusing them of dowry harassment. However, her husband and in-laws assured her that they would change their behavior and brought her back.
Now, Kanavika alleges that her in-laws received Rs 7 lakh in installments from her mother and that her husband’s uncle Paramesh sexually assaulted her. A separate case has been registered at the women’s police station in light of these new allegations.
