A central team led by Project Director Naeem Kiruwala arrived in Belgaum to evaluate five proposed sites for the Smart City 2 scheme. Originally planned for a two-day visit, the team completed their inspections within a single day. On Friday morning, they will visit the Smart City command and control center for a final meeting.
The team assessed the availability of space and basic amenities at each site and expressed satisfaction with their findings.
At Turmuri, they inspected the solid waste treatment plant and received detailed project information, indicating contentment with the facility. They also visited a designated site in Alataga for city debris dumping.
At the flower market, the team reviewed a project by the Municipal Corporation to create incense sticks from flowers, which was part of their inspection. In Khasbagh, they inspected a waste sorting center located at the night shelter, learning about waste categorization into five types.
Lastly, the team visited the Indira Canteen in Azamnagar, where they were briefed on a project converting leftover food into biogas. Upon submission of their inspection report, the scheme is set to receive ₹135 crores in funding.
