A fatal accident occurred on the Jatta-Jamboti state highway near Bacholi Cross, Khanapur town, when a car collided with a roadside bridge, causing it to overturn. Tragically, two individuals, including the driver, lost their lives, while two others sustained injuries.
Shankar Mohan Gomannache (27), residing in Macche, Belgaum taluk, and his friend Ashish Mohan Patil (26), from Hattarawad in the same taluk, lost their lives in the accident. Nikhesha Jayavant Pawar (26) and Jyotiba Govinda Gaonkara (29) of Macche village sustained injuries.
Shankara and his friends traveled to Khanapur for a party. On their way back to Belgaum via the Jamboti route, the driver lost control of the car, causing it to overturn. The vehicle was speeding downhill when it collided with a roadside bridge. Subsequently, two wheels detached and rolled approximately 100 meters. The car was severely damaged beyond recognition. The incident has been reported and a case filed at the Khanapur police station.
Khanapur police have initiated an investigation into the incident. The bodies of the two deceased individuals from the accident have been placed at the public government hospital in Khanapur. Police have stated that the bodies will be released to the family members following post-mortem examinations.
