Heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats region has led to significant damage. Within a week, 24 homes in Belgaum district have been affected. Khanapur Tahsildar Prakash Gaikwad reported that 12 houses in rural areas of Khanapur taluk, 4 houses in Jamboti hobli, 3 houses in Gungi hobli, and 3 houses in Beedi hobli have suffered damage. More homes are under threat of collapse, causing distress among rural residents. The overflow of the Malaprabha and Pandri rivers in Khanapur has worsened the situation.
Due to heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and the Western Ghats region, the Hidkal reservoir in Hukkeri taluk of Belgaum district has experienced a substantial increase in water levels, rising by 10 TMC within a week. Currently, the reservoir, essential for drinking and irrigation purposes across two districts, is releasing 21,000 cubic meters of water per second. With a total capacity of 51 TMC, it is currently filled to 18 TMC. This rise has brought relief and satisfaction to farmers in Belgaum and Bagalkot districts.
