The Belgaum – Kittur – Dharwad railway line will be fast-tracked, as Member of Parliament Jagadish Shettar urged Central Railway Secretary Ashwini Vaishnav to expedite the project. He also advocated for significant enhancements to six other key railway lines during the same interaction.
In Delhi, Jagadish Shettar met with the Union Secretary to discuss the railway project’s progress. He highlighted that a proposal for land acquisition had been submitted two years ago but emphasized that the Karnataka government had not yet transferred the land to the railway department. Shettar urged for directives to expedite the land transfer process.
Belgaum city has experienced educational growth with the establishment of Vishveshwarya Technological University and Rani Channamma University. Additionally, it houses multiple engineering, medical, and dental colleges, along with renowned KLE hospitals. The industrial sector is also advancing, and the Belgaum railway station is well-equipped with comprehensive facilities. In this context, the minister emphasized the need for expanding railway amenities.
Jagadish Shettar presented six significant requests:
1. Vande Bharat Express between Bengaluru and Belgaum.
2. Vande Bharat Express between Belgaum and Pune.
3. Daily express trains from Belgaum to Ayodhya and Pandharpur, and back to Belgaum.
4. Extension of the Hubballi-Kochuveli-Hubballi weekly express train to Belgaum.
5. Daily Superfast Express between Belgaum and Chennai.
6. Rail routes connecting Belgaum to Varanasi and Jodhpur.
