Late on Monday night, a police constable named Basanagouda Goudar, aged 40, was found dead by suicide, hanging from a tree near the tahsildar’s office in Bailhongal. Goudar, who hailed from Murukibhavi village in the Bailhongal taluk, took his own life, according to police sources.
Goudar had served at Bailhongal police station, Athani police station, and Doddwad police station. Reportedly struggling with alcohol addiction, he had taken leave following his election duty. A case has been filed at the Bailhongal police station, and inquiries are ongoing.
