A cutting-edge Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) Machine has been set up at KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital in Belgaum. The EUS Machine integrates endoscopy and ultrasound technologies to explore beyond the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, examining adjacent structures. Its capabilities include early diagnosis and distinguishing between benign and malignant tumors.
In a statement, Santosh Hajare, head of gastroenterology, explained that the EUS Machine is also employed for draining pus from deep-seated cavities, extracting biopsies from internal structures, and managing emergency bleeding from internal vessels.
This marks the debut of such equipment in Belgaum city. Renowned endoscopist Amit Maydeo, affiliated with Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital Mumbai, inaugurated the machine. Dr. Kore expressed contentment that this advanced machinery will serve the residents of Belgaum and nearby regions, aiding in the prompt diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal ailments.
The Gastroenterology Department organized its yearly Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on May 18 and 19. Distinguished faculty members from Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune were part of the event, delivering lectures on a range of subjects.
More than 150 gastroenterologists in consultation and gastroenterology students participated in the gathering. Additionally, a live endoscopy workshop covering various procedures was conducted as part of the event, according to a statement.
