Police in Belgaum have initiated a search for an individual who fatally stabbed a train coach attendant and wounded three others, including a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE), following a request to show his ticket on an express train. The incident took place on the Chalukya Express near Londa railway station on Thursday evening.
Belgaum Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang stated that the passenger engaged in a dispute with the TTE after being requested to present his ticket. Subsequently, the assailant produced a knife and assaulted the staff member.
When the railway coach attendant intervened, the passenger fatally stabbed him. Additionally, two others sustained injuries during the altercation. The TTE incurred minor cuts on his hands, but all injured individuals are reported to be in stable condition. Following the assault, the accused passenger fled by jumping off the train near Khanapur railway station, as informed by the police officer to PTI.
The Police Commissioner stated that multiple teams have been assembled to apprehend the accused, with some teams already dispatched for the task, ensuring the arrest of the accused passenger in the near future.
DIG Sharanappa of the Railway Department mentioned that four specialized teams have been established to locate the suspect involved in the incident of murder and assault aboard the Puducherry-Dadar Chalukya Express train, targeting one individual and two others, including a ticket collector. A case has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 302, 307, 332, and 353.
