Looking back more than a hundred years, to the beginning of 1919, when the foundation for this magnificent celebration was laid. Imagine the streets decorated with bullock carts, as the inaugural procession in tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj traversed the lanes of Belgaum. At that time, it was a simple event, a modest homage by the community within their own surroundings.
As time progressed, the sense of solidarity among the mandals ignited a metamorphosis. Gradually, the celebration transcended into a grand event, attracting participants from every part of the city. Coconut and banana leaves adorned with colorful decorations served as the backdrop, with each display narrating its unique tale. What started as a humble tribute expanded into a rich tapestry of local concerns and historical narratives.
Presently, the essence of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s heritage beats within the core of Belgaum. Multitudes assemble along the streets, their faces illuminated with respect, while the magnificent procession traverses from Nargundkar Bhave Chowk to its finale at Kapileshwar Temple.
