On Tuesday, in Dundanakoppa village of Saundatti taluk, a father of a minor girl killed a young man who was pressuring his daughter for marriage. He also murdered his elder brother, who attempted to intervene and protect his sibling.
The deceased individuals are identified as Mayappa Somappa Halegudi (20) and his older brother Yallappa Somappa Halegudi (22), both residing in Dundanakoppa village of Saundatti taluk. The accused, identified as Fakeerappa Maruti Bhavihal (50), also a resident of Dundanakoppa village, has been apprehended by the police.
Sources indicate that the accused, Fakeerappa, has a teenage daughter. The deceased victim, Mayappa, allegedly persistently pressured the parents of the teenage girl for marriage, asserting that he was in love with her and that she reciprocated his feelings.
The deceased individual also caused distress to the family by persistently bringing up this matter at their residence. Provoked by his actions, Fakeerappa purportedly stabbed Mayyappa in the chest and stomach when he returned with the proposal again on Tuesday night. He also stabbed Mayyappa’s elder brother, Yallappa, who attempted to intervene and stop him.
A team from Murgod police station arrived at the scene and, with the assistance of villagers, transported Yallappa to the hospital, whereas Mayappa passed away at the scene. Unfortunately, Yallappa also succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on Wednesday during treatment. Fakeerappa has been arrested by the police, who are conducting further investigations after filing a murder case.
