The political tension rose in Belgaum as the second phase of Lok Sabha elections approached, with senior BJP leaders beginning their campaign efforts. Following Prime Minister Modi’s visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a rally for party supporters in Hukkeri town today, covering the Chikkodi and Belgaum Lok Sabha constituencies.
The Congress had nominated young candidates Priyanka Jarkiholi to contest against incumbent MP Annasaheb Jolle in the Chikkodi Lok Sabha seat, and Mrinal Hebbalkar to challenge former chief minister Jagadish Shettar in the Belgaum Lok Sabha seat. While national Congress leaders had not yet visited these constituencies, the BJP had already mobilized two prominent campaigners.
Shah, who attended a large gathering in Hukkeri town on Friday, focused on the Congress regarding the Neha Hiremath and Jain monk murder cases in Chikkodi, as well as their stance on appeasement politics.
