Duradundeshwar Bannura, an assistant executive officer of the Panchayat Raj in Khanapur sub-division, Belgaum, was apprehended by the Lokayukta on March 26 for allegedly accepting a bribe. The arrest was related to an incident where officials from the Panchayat Raj Engineering Sub-Division, Khanapur, were reportedly demanding bribes from a Gram Panchayat member in exchange for technical approval for Narega works. Duradundeshwar Bannura was caught in the act and arrested on the 26th.
After the arrest, authorities conducted a search at Bannura’s home in Yallur village of Belgaum taluk, where he lives. During the search, officials found an undisclosed amount totaling ₹27,75,000 in cash and valuables. The cash has been confiscated pending further investigation, which is underway.
As per the official statement, the operation was conducted under the oversight of S.P. Hanamantarai, Kalo Belgaum, DAP, Pushpalata, Niranjan Patil, PI, along with team members Ravi Mavarakar, Rajshree Bhosale, Abhijita Jamakhandi, and the N.M. Mutt team.
