A 4.50-kilometer-long flyover is set to be built in Belgaum city, connecting National Highway-48 to Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle, aimed at enhancing traffic management. This ambitious initiative, spearheaded by District In-charge Minister Satish Jarakiholi, is currently underway.
A coordination meeting took place on Saturday, January 6th, at the DC office to deliberate on the execution of the flyover project. DC Nitesh Patil presided over the meeting, which saw the participation of officials from diverse departments.
In response to escalating traffic congestion in the city, the construction of the flyover is a proactive measure. Its objective is to facilitate seamless vehicular flow in the years to come. The flyover’s route will traverse the National Highway vicinity, including Shankam Hotel, Ashoka Circle, Sangolli Rayanna Circle (R.T.O.), alleviating traffic congestion up to the roundabout and Kittur Chennamma roundabout.
Additionally, the flyover will be planned to incorporate the upcoming super specialty hospital and the new complex for the district collector’s office.
Beginning at National Highway (NH-48) near Sankam Hotel, the flyover will traverse Ashoka Circle and Sangolli Rayanna (R.T.O.) Circle, extending to Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle. Roundabouts will be built at Ashoka Circle and Kittur Chennamma Circle to enhance the flow of vehicles.
Three ramps will be in place to ensure efficient traffic circulation in the region. One ramp will direct towards the bus stand, another will link to the RTO on the roundabout side, and the third ramp will intersect with the Mahantesh Nagar side road at Ashoka Circle.
Likewise, at Sangolli Rayanna Circle (R.T.O.), three ramps are planned. These ramps will establish connections with Chennamma Circle, Krishna Devaraya Circle (Kolhapur Circle), and the bus station.
Moreover, a proposed Road Over Bridge (ROB) will introduce a service road to Sambra Airport.
To guarantee the effective execution of this project, essential measures need to be taken by BSNL, Hescom, KSRTC, and the Urban Water Supply Board, in collaboration with officials from the relevant departments. District Collector Nitesh Patila has instructed the temporary relocation of systems associated with the concerned departments falling within the purview of this project.
