Over 32,000 applications received for Yuva Nidhi Scheme in Karnataka, Belgaum and Bengaluru urban lead the way. As the 10-day window for Yuva Nidhi registration comes to a close, Karnataka witnesses a surge in applications for the fifth guarantee promised by the ruling Congress government.
The scheme, offering a two-year unemployment allowance to graduates and diploma holders who completed their courses in 2023, has garnered a total of 32,184 applications. Leading the charge are Bengaluru Urban and Belgaum districts, with nearly 3,900 and 2,853 applications respectively.
Bagalkot follows as the third-highest contributor with 1,943 applications, succeeded by Vijayapura (1,741) and Raichur (1,714). Districts like Udupi, Kodagu, Chamarajanagar, and Ramanagara have recorded comparatively fewer registrations.
The skill development, entrepreneurship, and livelihood department shared this data, emphasizing the concentration of colleges in Bengaluru and Belgaum as the driving force behind their higher application numbers. A senior official noted, “Both these districts have more colleges, which means more graduates.”
Out of the estimated 5.3 lakh eligible beneficiaries who graduated in the academic year 2022-2023, only 6% have applied so far. The scheme, excluding those already employed or pursuing higher education, has allocated Rs 250 crore for the current financial year, with expected costs of Rs 1,250 crore and Rs 2,500 crore in the subsequent years. The unemployment allowance, Rs 3,000 per month for degree holders and Rs 1,500 for diploma holders, will be credited on January 12 during a special event in Shivamogga, coinciding with Swami Vivekananda Jayanti.
