Kiran Patil, a resident of Belgaum, was arrested by the police on Thursday. He allegedly threatened his wife with the release of private videos and photos if she did not agree to a divorce.
The police said that the accused started blackmailing to force his wife into marrying his lover. Despite several unsuccessful attempts by the wife to persuade him otherwise, the accused sought divorce from the victim through legal means.
Meanwhile, he began coercing her by threatening to share her private videos and photos on social media. The victim filed a complaint with the District Cyber Crime Police station, leading to the accused being questioned. The police discovered private videos and photos of the victim on his mobile device.
The husband, accused in the case, made an escape attempt from the police station and tried to end his life by consuming poison. He was subsequently admitted to a hospital and, following his release on Wednesday night, was sent to Hindalaga prison by the police.
