Belgaum police acknowledged and commended civilians and officers on Saturday for their prompt actions in aiding and rescuing a victim subjected to disrobing, parading, and assault by a mob in Hosa Vantamuri, Belgaum district.
Belgaum Police Commissioner Siddaramappa, accompanied by fellow officials, recognized civilians Wasim Makandar, Siddappa Holekar, and Jahangir Tahasildar, as well as police officers PSI Manjunath Hulakund, Manjunath Thekkekar, Subhash Bhill, Vittal Patted, Narayan Chippalakatti, and Muttappa Kwani on Saturday.
At the time of the incident in Vantamuri village, Belgaum district, village resident Wasim Makandar and Hosa Vantamuri Gram Panchayat President Siddappa Holekar promptly informed the police control room. Simultaneously, civilian Jahangir Tahasildar made efforts to rescue the victim even before the police arrived.
Upon receiving the information, Manjunath Thekkekar from the Belgaum police control room swiftly notified the Kakati ERSS. Within 10 minutes, Kakati Police Sub Inspector Manjunath Hulakund and a team of four personnel – Subhash, Vittal, Narayan, and Muttappa – arrived at the scene and successfully rescued the victim.
Following the commendation, Mr. Siddaramappa presented Rs 5,000 to each of the individuals, namely Wasim Makandar, Siddappa Holekar, Jahangir Tahasildar, and PSI Manjunath Hulakund. The police personnel received Rs 4,000 each from the Police Commissioner.
The Police Commissioner also provided a copy of the December 20, 2023 order, wherein the High Court commended Jahangir Tahasildar for his prompt actions in rescuing the woman in distress.
