The Belgaum Technology Companies Association (BeTCA) has officially presented a plea to Mr. Priyank Kharge, the Honorable Minister of Electronics, IT, BT, and ST for the Government of Karnataka. BeTCA, representing a collective of tech firms in the region, is urging the establishment of a dedicated Information Technology (IT) park near Belgaum. This request is emphasized as a longstanding and essential requirement crucial for advancing the local technology ecosystem.
Belgaum, emerging as a technology and innovation hub, has seen significant growth in its IT sector. Recognizing the potential for further development, BeTCA has reiterated its call for an IT park, expecting widespread benefits for the entire region.
The proposal presents various feasible locations for the IT park, considering factors like accessibility, infrastructure, and potential for future growth. BeTCA firmly believes that creating an IT park will not only attract more tech companies but also provide a conducive environment for existing enterprises to thrive and expand.
RK Patil from BeTCA stated, “The technology sector is in dire need of a boost. There are over 70 operational tech companies with a combined turnover of over 150 crores, contributing more than 25 crores in GST. We anticipate generating export revenue of approximately INR 100 to 500 crores within a few years, directly creating 500+ jobs and indirectly contributing to over 1000 jobs. Our aim is to establish a thriving business hub, generating substantial revenue and contributing to the economic growth of the region.”
This request follows past efforts to secure an IT park for the region, with BeTCA underscoring the critical role such a facility would play in talent attraction, fostering innovation, and overall economic development. The Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Ekroop Caur, Electronics, IT, BT, and ST, has also received the proposal, with the minister committing to a thorough review of the matter.
