The Winter Session of the Belgaum Legislative Assembly kicked off at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belgaum, reigniting calls for division within the district. Today, Athani district is observing a bandh, resulting in the complete shutdown at Athani.
Once again, the demand for district division reverberates in Belgaum district as Athani district declares a bandh. Protesters have gathered at a circle in Athni, setting a tire ablaze to voice their dissent and a protest march was organized.
The committee’s objective is to present a petition to former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA, Lakshman Savadi, who has pledged to raise the issue in the legislative assembly.
“I will strongly advocate for the establishment of Athani as a separate district in the assembly,” said Lakshman Savadi.
Notably, the movement has garnered support from political parties and various organizations, transcending political affiliations. In response to the bandh, heightened police security measures have been put in place, and businesses remain closed.
