In a devastating road accident near Devagiri Bambaraga Cross in Belgaum Taluk, two individuals, including a 12-year-old girl, lost their lives when a car collided with a tipper, resulting in both vehicles catching fire. The unfortunate deceased are identified as Mohan Maruti Belgaonkar (24) from Bambaraga village and Samiksha Dayekar (12) from Macche village.
The fatal incident occurred as the car, en route to Bambaraga village after a wedding, collided with a tipper near Bambaraga Cross. The impact caused the tipper’s diesel tank to burst into flames, leading to the tragic deaths of Samiksha and Mohan Maruti, occupants of the car.
Locals rescued Mahesh Belgaonkar and Sneha Belgundkar from the burning car, rushing them to the hospital with serious injuries. Firefighters and police swiftly responded to the scene, extinguishing the fire. DCP Sneha, ACP, and Kakati station police conducted an inspection, and the bodies were sent for postmortem at BIM’s hospital mortuary.
The tanker driver, responsible for the accident, surrendered to the police immediately. Witnesses in Belgaum blamed the tanker driver, alleging that he attempted to cross the road without noticing the oncoming speeding car. The tragic incident, occurring on Wednesday night, prompted an investigation, with the police registering a case.
