Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara informed the media that the government, expressing serious concern over the proliferation of misinformation on social media platforms, has drafted a bill aimed at curbing the dissemination of fake news, deep fakes, and derogatory posts.
Anticipated during the winter joint session of the legislature commencing on December 4 at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belgaum, the proposed bill is part of the state government’s proactive measures to address the challenges posed by deceptive online content. Dr Parameshwara stated, “The home department, in collaboration with the IT department, has formulated the draft, and it is highly likely that the bill will be presented in the upcoming session.”
In addition to overseeing the reexamination for 54,000 candidates via the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) to fill 545 police sub-inspector posts, the government is contemplating the recruitment of an additional 1,000 PSIs. Dr Parameshwara mentioned that this recruitment initiative may extend beyond a year. The Home Minister also attended a property parade showcasing valuables and properties worth Rs 4.09 crore.
