The construction of the new District Collector office complex in Belagavi is set to commence in January, with an estimated cost of ₹200 crore. District In-charge Minister Satish Jarakiholi has announced that the first phase, involving ₹100 crore, will be released soon, and the project is expected to be completed in three years. During this period, the district collector’s office and other related offices will temporarily relocate to nearby available facilities.
Minister Jarakiholi expressed his satisfaction in seeing the long-planned project finally underway, emphasizing the importance of administrative convenience in the decision to divide Belgaum taluk.
In response to concerns about road infrastructure, the Minister assured that road flyover and ring road construction will commence soon, following discussions with the National Highways Authority of India. He also mentioned plans to address the delayed Halaga-Machhe bypass road construction with the contracted parties.
The Minister also acknowledged the ongoing celebrations by the Maharashtra Integration Committee (MES), which have prompted the provision of police security to prevent any untoward incidents. Violations of the law will result in cases being registered against MES members.
Furthermore, Minister Jarakiholi highlighted the historical significance of Belgaum, as it hosted the only Congress session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi a century ago. Plans are underway to commemorate this event with various programs and seek grants from the Chief Minister’s office. Additionally, there are requests for the construction of a memorial in honor of freedom fighter Gangadhar Rao Deshpande in Hudali and Kanabargi, with the work set to begin after the location is finalized.
