Minister Santosh Lad takes action against fraudulent labor cards in Belagavi

Minister Santhosh Lad has issued a directive to nullify fraudulent labor cards. Concerns have arisen over both construction and non-construction workers forging documents to secure labor cards and falsely enlisting as beneficiaries to access various grants. Consequently, the registration of these individuals must be frozen or revoked, with Minister Santosh Lad of the Labor Department instructing officials to halt any board-related benefits.

This decision was conveyed during a recent progress evaluation meeting attended by regional-level department officials. The efficient processing of various applications, such as medical benefits, maternity allowances, and marriage grants for legitimate registered workers who have timely applied online, is of utmost importance. Minister Lad stressed the need to reject any ineligible applications that might surface.

Moreover, a significant number of labor cards have been identified as fraudulent. Stringent instructions have been issued to officials to promptly invalidate such cards.

District Collector Nitesh Patila has informed authorities that due to 90% of the industrial area being situated in Macche, plans have been drafted for the construction of an ESI Hospital on a 2-acre plot of land.

To streamline the access to departmental board schemes, it is recommended to establish local offices at the taluk and hobli levels. These offices should be adequately staffed with officers capable of efficiently facilitating workers’ access to necessary benefits.

Labor Department officials provided an update on the status of cases registered under the Minimum Wages Act within the Belgaum Regional Division. Currently, there are 30 ongoing cases in various stages of trial, with swift action expected for their resolution.

A notice has been issued regarding the resolution of cases related to unpaid minimum wages. Most of these cases are concentrated in Belgaum Division-1, and none have been settled thus far. Addressing labor concerns and expediting case resolution remains a pressing priority. In Belgaum Division 2, there has been a surge in cases involving outsourced employees in government sectors, including the forest department, government hospital, and transport department. Prompt resolution of these cases is crucial.

To access information about commercial establishments and building constructions, it is advisable to approach the District Urban Development Cell and liaise with the District Collector’s office.

Furthermore, ensuring the complete registration of various establishments is essential. Small businesses, hotels, and commercial shops operating without the requisite trade licenses and registrations in the district should be inspected and registered accordingly. Officials have been tasked with collecting data about commercial shops with electricity connections from the Hescom department and ensuring that the registration process is finalized by the end of December. Online registration is now available, and in case of registration denials, a meeting will be convened with the relevant association to provide information and address concerns.
