In a directive given by Satish Jarkiholi, the Minister for Public Works, officers of the Public Works Department have been instructed to undertake the required measures to ensure a lasting solution to the issue of landslides at Donigal in Sakaleshpur taluk.
During a comprehensive assessment, the Minister examined the progress of road construction activities along the Shiradi Ghat section of National Highway 75. The highway segment near Donigal has been prone to recurring landslides, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall, leading to prolonged disruptions in vehicular movement.
Instructing the officials, Jarkiholi emphasized the importance of preventing the recurrence of such incidents on the crucial road that serves as the main connection between Bengaluru and Mangaluru. While evaluating the advancements made in widening and fortifying the highway stretch between Sakaleshpur and Gundia, the Minister emphasized the need to adhere to the designated timeline for project completion. He urged the officers to prioritize quality and avoid any compromises in their efforts.

The Minister held a meeting with the landowners whose horticulture lands have been adversely affected by recurring landslides. The landowners expressed their concerns about the lack of proper compensation despite making multiple appeals. Assuring them of necessary assistance, the Minister pledged relief measures to address their grievances.
In attendance during the meeting were Sakaleshpur MLA Cement Manju, Secretary of the Public Works Department C. Sathyanarayana, H.C. Ramendra, Chief Engineer of the National Highway Bengaluru Zone, Shivayogi Hiremath, Chief Project Officer of the Karnataka State Highway Development Project, and Anmol Jain, Assistant Commissioner of Sakaleshpur-Division, among others.
