The Belagavi Cantonment Board has outlined a plan to enhance services at the Cantonment Board Hospital by expanding facilities, strengthening staff, and seeking specialist doctors from the state government. The 30-bed facility currently admits 30 to 40 patients weekly, handles two to three deliveries daily, and serves approximately 3,000 outpatients monthly. The board aims to provide comprehensive treatment on-site, reserving referrals to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) or other hospitals for critical cases only.
During a special board meeting chaired by Brigadier Girish Upadhyay, with Belagavi MLA Asif Sait and CEO Sudam Manchalwar present, officials discussed upgrading infrastructure and recruiting additional medical and support staff. The board considered requesting the state government to deploy doctors and approve financial assistance from charitable organizations and philanthropists. If current premises prove insufficient, a proposal to expand the hospital building will be framed. Members also discussed developing the hospital along the lines of BIMS with improved treatment facilities.
The meeting further reviewed road development within Cantonment limits, noting that most projects are complete except for ongoing work on Ramghat Road. Other agenda items included providing pension benefits to 161 employees, establishing a women’s gym at one of three identified locations, and addressing banking-related matters.
