A Belagavi court has sentenced Bharat Raichurkar, a 40-year-old man, to three years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for snatching a gold chain from an elderly woman in 2014. The Second JMFC Court delivered the verdict on Monday after a prolonged trial, finding the accused guilty of the offense.
The incident occurred on April 21, 2014, when Raichurkar visited Mallikarjun Boarding on Mahadwar Road and snatched a gold chain from Mahadevi Basappa Gadibidi, the elderly owner of the mess, as she returned from lunch before fleeing the scene. Following the crime, the victim’s son, Mahantesh Gadibidi, filed a complaint with the Market police station. Police registered a case, conducted an investigation, and subsequently filed a chargesheet against the accused. Judge Guruprasad S pronounced the sentence, while government prosecutor Mahantesh Chalakoppa represented the prosecution.
