Belagavi’s industrial sector is set for a significant push with a modern Technology Centre (Tech Hub) proposed in the Auto Nagar area across nearly 10 acres. The process to transfer the land from the State Government to the Central Government is underway and is likely to be completed within a month.
The project comes under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) initiative titled “Establishment of New Technology Centres,” which envisions setting up 20 such centres nationwide. Belagavi has been chosen for one of these key facilities and is said to be the second centre of its kind in South India.
Though the proposal was cleared nearly four years ago, identifying a suitable location caused delays. Earlier, sites such as Peeranwadi were considered but not finalised. The Auto Nagar land has now received approval, and related documentation is being processed by the District Industries Centre (DIC).
Joint Director of DIC, Satyanarayana Bhatt, stated that once the land handover is completed, tender procedures and administrative steps will begin. Construction work is expected to commence within six months thereafter.
With an estimated investment of ₹250 crore, the Technology Centre will house advanced laboratories with modern equipment, research and development units, skill training sections, a residential industrial training institute, and a technical education college. The institute will emphasise industry-focused, employment-oriented courses and aims to train at least 1,000 students each year.
The facility is anticipated to create both direct and indirect job opportunities while offering technical assistance and innovation support to local industries. Officials believe the centre will attract further industrial investment and strengthen Belagavi’s position as a growing hub for technology and innovation.
Residents and industry representatives are now looking forward to swift administrative action so that the groundwork can begin without further delay.
