A shocking incident has taken place in Giriyala village of Bailahongala taluk, Belagavi district, where a young man was murdered by his friend over a loan of just ₹2,000.
The victim, identified as Manjunath Gowdar (30), was allegedly killed by his friend Dayanand Gundlur after a dispute over the repayment of the borrowed money turned violent.
According to reports, Manjunath had borrowed ₹2,000 from Dayanand last week, promising to return it within seven days. When he failed to repay the amount, an argument broke out between the two on Sunday night. The verbal spat soon escalated, and in a fit of rage, Dayanand attacked Manjunath with an axe in the early hours of the morning.
Manjunath sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them while being taken to the hospital. The incident has left the village in shock.
After learning of his friend’s death, Dayanand surrendered at the Bailahongala Police Station and expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
Police visited the scene, seized the weapon, and registered a case under IPC Section 302 (murder). Statements from witnesses are being recorded, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crime.
The incident highlights how even minor financial disputes can lead to tragic consequences, leaving the community deeply disturbed.
