A woman impersonating a postgraduate medical student was caught while treating patients at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS).
The accused, identified as Sana Sheikh from Karwar, had reportedly been visiting the hospital for the past two to three months, dressed in a doctor’s coat and introducing herself as a PG student. She moved across wards, including the surgical ward and OPD, where she interacted with patients and even offered treatment.
Her behavior raised doubts among staff, and when confronted, she allegedly invoked the name of the BIMS director to intimidate them. Eventually, a security guard caught her red-handed while attending to patients and informed senior officials. The matter was later escalated to the hospital surgeon and RMO.
Inquiry revealed that Sana had also been practising at a private hospital, allegedly with backing from a department head at BIMS.
Administration questioned
The incident has sparked criticism over lapses in hospital administration. When contacted by the media, the BIMS director declined to comment.
