In a shocking incident in Belgaum taluk, a woman from Hosa Vantmuri village was allegedly assaulted, stripped naked, and tied to an electricity pole. The attack was in retaliation for her son eloping with a girl who was scheduled to be engaged on Monday. The incident occurred during the night between Sunday and Monday.
The police reported that the woman’s son had been in a relationship with the girl, prompting the girl’s family to rush to the boy’s house upon learning of their elopement. The family members damaged the youth’s house and subjected his mother to the degrading act. Seven individuals have been detained in connection with the incident, and three companies of the District Armed Reserve (DAR) have been deployed to prevent any further disturbances.
Police Commissioner S N Sidramappa visited the scene, and the Kakati police are currently investigating the matter. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the incident, emphasizing that the government would take strict action against the perpetrators. He expressed his dismay on social media and assured that those responsible for the heinous act would face severe consequences.
Home Minister G Parameshwara stated that seven individuals directly involved in the crime had been arrested and would be brought to court soon. The minister also announced his intention to visit the victim, who is receiving treatment at a local hospital. He provided details of the disturbing events, highlighting the brutality inflicted on the woman after her son and the girl eloped.
