A 36-year-old farm woman, Gauravva Neelappa Kenganur, was found dead at her residence in Anigol village near Bailhongal in Belagavi district on Wednesday.
Her family has lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that she died by suicide after being harassed by a microfinance company.
Relatives discovered her body at the house and noticed a brief note written on a wall before her death. They informed the police, who later photographed the writing found inside the house.
According to the police, Gauravva had taken loans worth ₹8 lakh from a microfinance firm but was unable to repay them on time due to financial difficulties. She was allegedly subjected to harassment by company executives and took the extreme step, they said.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
