Police in Maharashtra’s Sangli district recovered the body of a 32-year-old woman who had undergone an abortion following a pre-natal gender test in Karnataka, authorities stated on Tuesday.
An official stated that three family members of the deceased woman, who were discovered with the body inside a car in Sangli city on Monday, have been taken into custody by the police. He mentioned that the Karnataka police have taken custody of the trio. The woman, who hails from Miraj taluka, is a mother of two children, and her husband serves in the army.
As per police reports, the woman was transported to a hospital in Chikodi town, located in the neighboring Karnataka’s Belgaum district, where her family purportedly subjected her to a pre-natal gender test.
Afterwards, she underwent an abortion procedure, resulting in her demise. However, the hospital declined to provide a death certificate, stating that the woman hailed from Maharashtra, the official added.
The official mentioned that the woman’s relatives claimed her body and transported it to Sangli. Acting on a tip-off regarding the presence of the body in the car, law enforcement officials halted the vehicle at a bus stop, he explained. He mentioned that they acknowledged the incident but did not file a case. Following a post-mortem examination, they notified the Karnataka police since the death occurred within their jurisdiction, he explained.
