The Gruhalakshmi scheme offers ₹2,000 per month to the woman head of qualifying households in Karnataka. Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Monday dismissed concerns regarding delayed payments under the Gruhalakshmi guarantee scheme, describing the issue as “nothing serious.”
In a statement by reporters, he remarked, “What’s the big deal? If the money is distributed every two or three months instead of monthly, the sky won’t fall.” Jarkiholi explained that minor delays of a month or two in government disbursements are routine and added that beneficiaries will receive lump sum payments once the amount accumulates.
According to him, the system is designed to process and release combined payments when necessary.
He urged media outlets not to exaggerate the situation, assuring, “Even if there’s a delay, payments will be made. There’s no uncertainty about that.”
His remarks come in the backdrop of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s earlier statement that the monthly timeline for payouts under the scheme may not always be maintained.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to pre-poll promises, Shivakumar had said, “When I took charge as KPCC President, I said Congress would return to power if Karnataka’s women and youth stood with us. We kept that promise by launching five guarantee schemes. We have delivered as committed.”
