During heavy rainfall, villagers in Angav Gram, Khanapur taluk, Belgaum district, performed a heroic act by carrying a 36-year-old woman named Harshada, who was unconscious due to a severe fever, for five kilometers through dense forests to the hospital. Despite the challenging conditions, the villagers prioritized saving her life without hesitation.
Harshada, aged 36, fell seriously ill with a high fever in the dense forest area of Angav Gram. With no roads, bridges, or mobile network coverage available, villagers improvised a stretcher using bamboo poles to carry her five kilometers through heavy rainfall to reach an ambulance stationed on a forest road. They then transported her an additional kilometer to a spot with mobile network coverage, where they called emergency services (108) to save her life. The villagers showed exceptional effort to ensure she received urgent medical attention.
Upon receiving the call, an ambulance promptly arrived in Jamboti, where Harshada had collapsed, providing initial medical care before transferring her to the district hospital in Belgaum. The situation in Khanapur taluk’s forests remains critical, impacting children, pregnant women, and elderly individuals in urgent need of medical assistance. Local residents have appealed to authorities to swiftly provide essential services to address these challenges.
