Unseasonal rains in Karnataka have claimed another life. In a tragic incident in Belagavi, a 34-year-old woman, Parvin Bepari, died after a wall of a dilapidated house collapsed on her during heavy rainfall. Her husband, Sharif Bepari, narrowly escaped and survived.
Couple had taken shelter from the rain
The couple was travelling on a bike to sell chickens when the rain intensified. They stopped near an abandoned house in Hosur village to take shelter. Suddenly, a wall of the structure gave way, killing Parvin on the spot. Sharif, who survived the incident, is undergoing treatment at BIMS Hospital. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Kakati Police Station. The family has demanded compensation from the government.
Heavy winds and hailstorms have caused damage across Belagavi district. At one location, strong winds blew away tin sheets from the roof of a KLE institution’s premises. No injuries were reported, and cranes were used to clear the debris.
In another incident, nearly 20 Ramzan food stalls suffered losses after strong winds tore off their roofs around 7 PM while vendors were preparing evening meals, damaging food and supplies.
This comes a day after a 14-year-old boy, Manjunath Mudegouda, lost his life in Koppal district. The Class 8 student was struck by lightning while grazing goats in Yelburga taluk.
