In a serious violation of official procedures, an unauthorised individual was found occupying the Sub-Registrar’s seat at the Belagavi North office, situated within the Deputy Commissioner’s premises. The incident has sparked serious concerns regarding security lapses and administrative oversight.
The man, identified as the son of attender Bhimappa Alagudi, was reportedly seen accessing official land records, issuing printouts, and handling government documents, duties for which he holds no official designation. Witnesses and office staff raised an alarm after noticing his repeated presence inside the office, including during after-hours, prompting suspicion of potential misuse of sensitive records.
Upon being confronted by the crowd that gathered at the scene, the individual initially claimed he had permission from Sub-Registrar Karibasavanagowda. However, he later changed his version, stating that he had only come to drop off his father and held no official responsibilities.
Sub-Registrar Karibasavanagowda, who was away attending a meeting with the District Registrar, denied granting any such permission. “This is completely illegal. No outsider can be allowed to operate from my desk or use government systems. In my absence, I had handed charge to the FDA, not to anyone else,” he clarified.
He acknowledged the seriousness of the incident and confirmed that a formal inquiry would be initiated. “We know the person is the attender’s son. The CCTV DVR is currently with the Lokayukta Police. We’ll request its return to verify the footage,” he added.
District Registrar Mahantesh Patatar also condemned the violation, stating, “This is a clear breach of office procedures. Only the FDA is authorised to assume charge in the absence of the Sub-Registrar, not any outsider. We will initiate action against the attender and direct the Sub-Registrar to file a police complaint immediately.”
The incident has raised serious concerns over access control within government departments, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement of official protocols to safeguard public trust.
