In a tragic incident on May 27, two young brothers drowned in a water-filled pit in Sambaragi village, Belagavi district, Karnataka.
Deepak (9) and Ganesh (7), sons of farmer Sanjay Kamble, lost their lives after their bullock cart slipped into a trench on the stream bank. The ditch, left behind by sand miners, was filled with water.
The children were returning home from their field along with their father when the accident occurred. Despite his presence, he was unable to save them.
Their sibling Akshay sustained injuries in the incident and has been hospitalized.
The Athani police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
